Frequently asked
- Is my confession data shared with anyone?
- No. Confession session text never reaches our servers. Messages are sent directly from your device, through a stateless function we operate, to our AI provider (Anthropic) and back. The text lives only on your device, encrypted with hardware-backed AES-256. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.
- Is the AI a substitute for confession with a priest?
- No. The AI is a companion for examination, reflection, and prayer — it is not a priest. In Catholic teaching, valid sacramental confession requires a validly ordained priest. Confessionals can help you prepare for the sacrament or keep a quiet habit of self-reflection between visits, but it cannot fulfill the sacrament itself.
- How do I cancel my subscription?
- Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On iOS, go to Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, find Confessionals, and tap Cancel. You will keep access until the end of your current billing period. If you need help, email support@confessionals.app.
- How do I delete my account?
- In the app: Settings → Account → Delete Account. Or email privacy@confessionals.app from the address on your account. We delete server-side data within 30 days of the request.
- How do I switch traditions?
- In the app: Settings → Tradition. You can change between Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant at any time, and (for Protestant) pick a denomination. The AI persona and content adjust immediately.
- When will Android be available?
- iOS launches first, in Spring 2026. Android is on the roadmap for later in 2026. Email support@confessionals.app to be notified when it ships.
- What Bible translations does the app use?
- Catholic mode uses the NABRE and RSV-CE translations. Orthodox mode uses the RSV-CE and OSB. Protestant mode uses ESV and KJV by default; you can switch in Settings. Licensed translations come from API.Bible; the public-domain KJV is also available.
- Why is the app rated 12+?
- Confession can touch on adult themes — addiction, sexuality, scriptural violence — that come up honestly in spiritual reflection. We rated 12+ to acknowledge this without being unnecessarily restrictive. We did not enroll the app in Apple's Made for Kids program.
- Is there a free version?
- Yes. You can use up to three confession sessions per calendar month for free, plus the full examination of conscience, all prayer features, and your private session history. The paid plans remove the 3/month cap.
- I'm in crisis. Can the app help?
- If you are in immediate danger, please contact emergency services (911 in the US) or a crisis hotline (988 in the US, Samaritans in the UK). The app surfaces these resources when it detects crisis content, but it is not an emergency response system. Please reach out to a real human.
